Staying active in the summer is very important for everyone. Activity goal for children is a minimum of 1 hour a day. Florida is hot, so be sure to drink plenty of water which is a minimum of half of your body weight in ounces.  Eating fruit also adds a source of water but in addition helps add natural electrolytes. Due to the heat many kids will want to stay indoors so here are some good ideas in addition to finding a summer camp to stay active with the kids when it’s hot:

go for a swim

bike ride

walk in the morning or evening

Walk on a treadmill or indoor stationary bike

go to the local gym

yoga: video, at the studio or online

YMCA

hike at the beach or park such as:  barefoot beach,  Ft. Myers Beach or lovers Key, local parks: Koreshan Park, lakes park,  Estero park.

Water related sports like kayaking and paddle boards.

weightlifting ( 12 yrs old and up )

Remember to:

1. have a fun and safe summer!!
2. book a camp if you have not done so already and plan ahead to keep these kids active. On average kids can gain 5 to 10 pounds in the summer due to inactivity.
3. stock the house full of healthy snacks and remember your sunblock and water safety.
(Its a good time for swim lessons)
4. Schedule a Physical now if your child needs one. Call us or request an appointment via the portal

Don’t forget to have a great summer!   Have fun!!
