Practice Philosophies
It is important when choosing a pediatric practice for your children that you give serious consideration to the question as to if a practice philosophies and your own align. Excellent care happens when the a practice's philosopies align with your priorities, values and decisions regarding your child’s medical care. This allows for shared decision-making to be based on mutual respect. Please read the following topics below to help you determine if Island Coast Pediatrics is the appropriate medical home for your children. Antibiotics
We work hard to not overuse antibiotics. We educate families on appropriate use of antibiotics, but follow evidence-based guidelines. In otherwords, we don’t automatically treat ear pain or a green snotty noses with antibiotics. We do not routinely call in antibiotics over the phone either as we do not believe that is good medicine. When we believe antibiotics are appropriate treatment, we will be happy to prescribe them as needed.
Medical Home
We work hard to provide your family with comprehensive medical care and to serve as your child's medical home. We request you contact our office FIRST before seeking specialty care, urgent care and most importantly going to the emergency room for non-emergent medical conditions. We want to be involved in providing care in our office when appropriate or referring you to a specialist when needed. Whenever you see a specialist, we ask you request them to provide us a report of your visit to be sent directly to our office so we can stay informed and have the most up-to-date information in your child's medical record.
Technology
You will be encouraged to utilize our website and patient portal. We utilize automated patient reminders via text messages and emails for appointments for routine care, follow up visits and to help assure your child’s immunizations remain up to date.
Office Hours
We make every effort to meet the needs of our patients by offering both routine and acute care appointments at our offices during usual business hours. We offer well care and sick appointments on Saturdays. We do not offer walk-in hours.
Please familiarize yourself with our office hours to see if they work for your family.
